Top 10 Albums of 2009
Yep, it’s that time…to look back on the past year and comment on the music that won.
It was hard to narrow it down to only 10. Some great albums had to fall by the wayside as a result. But these are the ones that that surfaced to the top of the pile.
1. Switchfoot – Hello Hurricane (Best album of the year…and I’ll go ahead and say it…the best album of Switchfoot’s career.)
2. Thrice – Beggars (This is probably the music underestimated rock machine on the planet. Mind-blowingly awesome.)
3. David Crowder*Band – Church Music (The best p&w album of all time? Probably. 17 tracks that play continuously. Genius put to disc.)
4. Jars of Clay – The Long Fall Back to Earth (JoC re-establish themselves as a vital, pop/electro band. Stunning.)
5. Flyleaf – Memento Mori (Heavy. Accessible. Bold. Immediate. Powerful.)
6. Future Of Forestry – Travel I & Travel II EP’s (Beautifully produced, enthrallingly composed Brit-rock songs, sometimes drenched in tribal rhythms.)
7. NeedToBreathe – The Outsiders (Southern-rock done to perfection.)
8. Falling Up – Fangs! (Weird post-rock that somehow takes your breath away.)
9. Sleeping At Last – Storyboards (Symphonic, cimematic, orchestral, sweeping, and quiet.)
10. MuteMath – Armistice (Rock & rhythm, lots of hooks. Hey, it’s addictive.)
